Constanza Macras devises choreographies that have been described as energetic, powerful, wild and colourful but they are also serious commentaries on topics critical of society. In Distortion, Constanza Macras takes the basic moves of hip hop and deforms them to make expressive imagery in a contemporary choreography. Together with eight performers from the HipHop Academy Hamburg, she sounds out the possibilities of what can be physically portrayed, making the dancing bodies into a vehicle for a visually stunning narrative.

1991_workshop of Constanza Macras for Ecole des Maîtres 2013
In the later years , and through the worldwide economic crisis, the question of democracy has being permanent issue. The waves of discomfort in Europe echoing the Arab spring trigger “the indignados” in Spain and the Occupy movement. One of their main slogans is: “we want real democracy now”. After the initial euphoric and hopeful protest that include serious police repression of civilians. The movement seems to be simply fading, disintegrating without hope and glory and without establishing what was the movement really about .The use of social media plaid a key role in this movements and still pretends it does. There are permanent protest about everything in the ” walls” of social media sites .Quantity is transforming quality, causes are tainted by futility. In the meantime Europe is suffering an identity Crisis. Real Democracy remains the unanswered question, and more so is there an alternative to it?
In 1991 Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan ,Tajikistan,Turkmenistan,Uzbekistan and azerbaijan declared themselves independent of the soviet Union, since them they sough democracy and free market policies. There has been an impressive economic grow in some of them , And unclear but mostly “democratic” totalitarian systems that hold together extremely large number of religions and ethnicity.
In 1991 I would like to examine in a way of Science fiction fashion , where knowledge accuracy can give space to fantasy fabrication. This “remote” lands of Central Asia, do they hold and alternative to Europe are they going to grow and take cultural supremacy? are they more scary than China? why we don’t hear anything about them in Europe?
The work will be develop though improvisations , movement and text. There will be an extensive physical work and the approach to theatricality will not be focus on a naturalistic approach. Music will be part of the process there will singing as part of the workshop.”
